Foyle Friends of Ukraine Logo

The Foyle Friends of Ukraine is a new initiative intended to make it easier for local residents and businesses to match with Ukrainian families as part of the Homes for Ukraine scheme. It is a collaboration between The COUP, a Donemana-based women's nonprofit, and Derry~Londonderry-based international development charity Children in Crossfire. Additional support has been provided by Hypixel Studios, the Riot Games Social Impact Fund, and Hypixel Studios CEO Aaron Donaghey.

The initiative is intended to run for three months and is fully funded for that duration, having raised over £30,000. Further financial aid is not being sought at this time, but local residents and businesses that are interested in providing housing or support to families from Ukraine are invited to register their interest online. The sign-up form can be found at this form.

The COUP - 'where all the chicks hang out' - is a women's creative hub in Donemana. It is equipped with a craft and sewing space, library and reading area, contemporary up-cycled kitchen, DIY multi-use studio plus outside patio-style garden. The COUP offers support and boundless opportunities for women to use the facilities to gain new ideas or insights into their own capabilities, or simply find a haven of calm to escape to. Our role within Foyle Friends of Ukraine is to act as a vehicle to help deliver their aim to match homes with families - to support them in this process and offer practical guidance.

The story of Children in Crossfire, has its roots in what began as a tragedy and ended as a triumph of the human spirit to overcome adversity. Founded in 1996 by Richard Moore who was blinded as a 10 year old boy in 1972 during the Northern Ireland conflict, Children in Crossfire supports projects helping some of the most vulnerable children on the planet that suffer from the injustice of poverty. We work in partnership with local organisations in Tanzania and Ethiopia to improve the lives of the most disadvantaged young children, with a particular focus on Early Childhood Education (ECE). In Ireland, we work in schools and with the general public to raise awareness of global justice issues, and advocate for increased investment in ECE.
